For my son and his alcohol problem

Post by hogleg » Sat Jan 14, 2017 7:05 am

Please pray for my son, Zachary.

He has a severe alcohol problem. He's recognized it and told his mother he's tired of the life it provides him and the waste of time and money he allows it to cause in his life. But he isn't taking any steps to correct it nor will he allow us to walk with him in an attempt at recovery. Another incident with a Deputy calling me last night at 1230AM so I could fetch him rather than him being arrested.

He's been working full time in a temp position as a Archeological Field Tech for about six months across three contracts. Two days ago his company brought him on in a permanent position as an Archeologist. He busted his butt to get that, but I fear he'll destroy that as he destroys his life (and potentially others').

Last week he told his mother he was sick of what he was doing and wanted to quit; however, he won't accept any help we might offer. He said he wanted to be sober by his birthday (8 February), and I have no doubt he can do it, but I have my doubts he will do it. Last week he also asked my wife for her cousin's number, a cousin in her 50's (our age) who was in the same place as Zachary at Zachary's age but who didn't come around and become sober until she was in her 40s. When my wife spoke to her about it, Joy asked has he done X, has he done Y, has he done Z, etc., etc. (none of which are good). All of which were affirmative and all which she said mirrored her alcohol problems nearly identically.

We don't know if he's called Joy as Joy told us she wouldn't tell us if he does or what they discuss (which is fine by us), but I pray he does and ask you too to pray he does.

It only takes one moment, one voice, and one ear to open a chink in the armor. Praying that God will provide the moment, that Joy will be the voice, and that Zachary will have an ear open, to take heart in what she says and begin the process of healing.

Praying for him sir, and for all you and yours. Speaking as an alcoholic, I know it to be a terrible disease and I also know that the single best support that one can have, the only conceivable antidote to this horrid affliction, is the healing touch of the Holy Spirit and the support of those we love. He can get through it.

Odd, how many archeologists battle with the bottle, really. I've known more than a few who struggled with alcoholism.

The worst thing in the world is seeing your own kid suffer under this cruel bondage.

Lifting Zachary along with all of the rest of us who struggle with alcohol and or substance abuse.
