Possible Career Shift or Change.

Brothers (Sisters, here too?),

I normally do not reach out in this fashion (nor in my church body as well), I do believe in prayer and communication with God. I just got this hang up asking others to pray for me ... but, under the circumstances I do ask. See below.

I am looking at a possible career shift. The current job/career is one I took after graduating with my MBA.
1) There is a position for a DA Investigator through my local DAs office. Due to my background, I exceed the minimum qualifications/requirements. I would actually be able to use my education, training, experience, and skills. I am turning in the initial application either late today or early tomorrow. If hired the hours would be better for my wife and me. However, there is a risk of a significant pay cut, which would not be good for us. I would the opportunities to ensure that the 'state' brings a solid case, rather than by the skin of its teeth. (I hate shoddy investigations)

2) Some mentors, and others that are close to me, have also recommended that I use my veterans benefits to get brushed upon on my information technology back ground, and then bring my background into the Digital Forensics/Investigation world.

I am at a cross roads. Prayers would be appreciated ... and advice if any of yall have experience with the above.

The big question is will it raise your quality of life. I took a pay cut when I switched jobs over two years ago and it drastically raised my quality of life. Work became a joy instead of a stress. IMO if you are still able to make ends meet with less pay choose quality of life. I mean, quality of life is what you are trying to buy with the extra cash anyway, right?

Update:
I turned in the initial application yesterday for the DA Investigator position.
Last, Wednesday I talked with my LT (two ranks above me), he stated that he appreciates the work I have done and backs my application and possible hiring by the DA office. He also said that he will hate to see me leave, but that I really need to apply my training, experience, and education in a career that will actually use those. Said, He would give nothing but solid recommendations about me to the DA office.

Still waiting to hear from the Dist Atty's Office if I will get an interview. Everybody seems to think at I'll at least get an interview.

I have talked with some of the guys in my Sunday school class about the cyber security/digital forensics. They gave me (I believe) some sound advice. One in particular asked me, "What would hurt if you started taking classes that refreshed and walked you into the various cyber security certifications?"
So, I have registered at the local community college/trade school and talked with an academic adviser. He stated that due to my background, I really don't need to seek a AAS or a certificate, but that he would be willing to advise on a series of courses that would refresh and prep me for the CompTIA Cyber Security Certifications Track (Security+, CySA+, etc), or the CISSP through (ISC)2. I will being starting my first class in March.
