Prayers for my older son, Paul

Post by dennisthemenace » Sun May 27, 2018 1:37 pm

Praying Friends;

Our son Paul's mental state has not been good for some time now. He has had a hard time holding a job, or paying bills, etc.

He has been hearing voices and hears the chatter almost constantly, with the conviction that the government is beaming stuff at him to hear these voices and to read his mind.

I've called behavioral health services to ask if we could admit him for observation; but they said that would only be possible if he was threatening himself or others. This morning that happened. Following is my wife's message to our prayer group. Apologies if you get this more than once.

Dear family:

Paul showed up at 8:00 am today. I was the only one downstairs. He came in and got himself some food and started talking to me. He was much more frank than he had ever been with me about what he thinks is going on with him. Oh friends—what a convoluted bizarre trail he’s gone down. He talked for nearly an hour.

I asked questions from time to time, trying to get him to see irrational thought patterns. Finally I suggested that one of two things is true, broadly speaking: either he is right and someone is out to get him, or there is mental illness involved, which can be treated.

He said he is almost willing to give up and agree to the latter—but of course “they” can turn these waves or signals or whatever DOWN, so it seems like the meds are working. In that case, with a schizophrenia diagnosis, he’ll know that this was our plan to ensure he can never get custody of Lucy again...and then he’ll kill me/us.

Well at that point I knew it was time to call our FWPD Crisis Intervention Team. They came, and Paul is in Parkview Behavioral Health now, for at least 72 hours. The case worker who called me said they have enough factors involved to get a court order to treat him against his will.

Please pray that the treatment gives him relief from the voices and the ability to think clearly. We are praying for TRUTH to prevail .

Yours,
Weary but in His grip,
Lauren

We've dealt with mental health issues in a couple of our kids, so I understand the pain you're going through. Praying hard.

Thank you so much for all the prayers! No change to report. The hospital called and said first that Paul wouldn't speak to them, and then that he was sleeping around the clock. Pretty much the same behavior he had when he'd come here, with breaks to raid the refrigerator.

He's been living in my brother's empty house, but owes my brother something like $1500 in back rent, so he's not welcome back there. He's also not welcome to live here. No half-way house is available, so it looks like, if the hospital releases him tomorrow, that it will be The Rescue Mission or a friend's house.

Meanwhile we have a court date coming up about his student loan debt which I was foolish enough to co-sign for; so looks like we'll have to pay Sallie Mae about $10,000 that we don't have.

Keep praying! Thanks!
Your Humble and Obedient Servant,

Dennis
