Thursday doctor appointment

Post by Steverino » Wed Sep 19, 2018 9:56 pm

Gents, I would appreciate a prayer or two for tomorrow. I have a 2 p.m. appointment at the urologist to have my first cystoscope. Not looking forward to having it but definitely looking forward to what it may enable us to find out. Fear and dread hasn't set in yet but I'm expecting them tomorrow.

I know I don't frequent these pages as much as I used to and I apologize for that but I am trying to do better. If some of you wouldn't mind praying, I would appreciate it.

TIA
Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. Isaiah 55:6,7 ESV

Alright then. I had the cystoscope. It was not fun. In fact, when the doc maneuvered the scope up to a stuck stone and pushed it out of the way, I believe it was the most intense pain I've ever felt. Thankfully, it lasted probably no more than 5 seconds. At least now I know what a 10 on the pain scale means.

I really enjoyed being able to see the screen. I was watching the same thing the doc was watching. The trip up the urethra reminded me of that movie from years ago, something about voyage to the human brain, or something like that.

When he got up to the bladder proper, he said "Wow - you've got a lot of bladder stones." Then about three seconds later, "Wow! You've got a lot of bladder stones". Then, the next statement from Dr. Capt. Obvious, "WOW!! You've got a lot of bladder stones - hey Angie, go get Judy and Amy, they gotta see this!" So I ended up with 1 doctor and about 5 nurses in the procedure room with me bare to the world - except my shirt and socks. So I guess that part was fun. You'd have to ask the girls.

Something I should have mentioned earlier is that I am now under the care of a different urologist. I like him much better as he has an actual personality. My previous one didn't, and when you put two people in a room together that don't have a personality, well, you know, sparks fly.

So the plan is to have surgery soon. A laser will be used to blast the stones to powder and they will then be vacuumed out of the bladder. I will be asleep for that. Then the doc will do a scrape biopsy on my prostate before resecting it to reduce its size. The biopsy will of course tell us whether further vigilance for cancer is warranted.

Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts as I walked the valley on this one. (Melodrama intended.) I hope I will be able to return the favor.

Oh, my gosh. So sorry for all this, Steve. You're a trooper to have written all about this so soon after that ordeal.
