Dad passed

Post by gaining_age » Mon Feb 11, 2019 7:21 am

My dad passed away on Saturday night at his home in Colorado. I found out yesterday morning.

His wife, my stepmother, has her brother and sister coming in to help with short term items.

He went quietly in his sleep as far as we can tell-- which is a blessing.

I've talked to my dad a lot (almost daily) and this will be a hard change and I'll miss him a lot.

The absence of a parent hurts. God formed you out of your father and your mother and so they have known you longer than any other person except Jesus. Your Dad is in Heaven but he''s not here and that hurts, I know. It leaves a hole in your life. But your Dad's DNA is flowing through your veins right now, so he is with you and will always be with you even though you won't be able to talk to him until you have that glorious reunion in Heaven. Praying for peace and comfort for you and your family.
When you are walking down the road, don't look at the woods, look into them.

Heartfelt condolences.
You're right, it will be hard, especially when you've made such a habit of visiting with him. It will feel like there's a big empty spot! But what a GOOD THING that you won't have to feel any regrets, that you didn't call him enough, or show him enough love. You DID, and it was a blessing to him, but now it is for you. That empty spot? It really is full of love.
May God continue to bless you and yours.

your words of encouragement are extremely touching and I really appreciate it. Stan-- I may be keeping those with me for a while. Jake-- thank you.

It did hit me hard today. My wife and I were chatting one the phone and I didn't realize I was losing focus but I heard "36, 33, 35, 23..." and I startled and said "what was that?! Your measurements? -- why are there four numbers?!" and she laughed and said it was the highs for where we'll be going (back home).

I was making lunch later and really started laughing over that and the first thought I had was it would be a fun one to tell my Dad. Boom.
He had a great sense of humor and we'd get each other going over silly things like that. I'm going to need to find an outlet.

I'm hearing a lot of support-- friends, you all, family- my kids. It's good as I'm reeling. It's going to come and go and settle in.

That's going to happen a lot. The good news is that it will happen less as time goes by. The really good news is that it'll never go completely away. Thirty years from now something will happen and you'll want to share it with your dad. I hope you smile when that happens.

Still praying.
