Yes and apparently it is going to be devastating.

Watching it live. They say that the firefighters are not really effective. The cathedral is on an island.

Re: For Notre Dame de Paris
oh man, what a loss
I hope it wasn't the case here, but there's been a rash of church vandalism in France over the past month or so. I don't want to, but can't help thinking it's related.

Re: For Notre Dame de Paris
A terrible loss and not just to Catholics worldwide but to everybody. The loss of the history alone is catastrophic, even more so considering what that Cathedral means spiritually to so many people. I prayed.

Heartbreaking.
Praying for our Catholic brothers and sisters in France and for the firefighters on the scene.

Praying. Such a terrible loss.

Correction. It was confirmed that all construction workers were not present at the time of the fire.

Reports are that much of the removable art was carried to safety. The main structure may be saved for a rebuild.
Still a tragic and unfathomable loss.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

The New York Times has reported most of the timber roof was destroyed, and it is unknown to what extent the organs, paintings, and rose windows were damaged, but the interior of the building appears more preserved than initially thought. Most of the relics, including the crown of thorns and the tunic of St. Louis, are believed to have been saved by a human chair of volunteers just after the fire began to spread. Additionally, it is thought that the altar, or at least the cross, remains standing.
