Hats

Post about everything from carrying a handkerchief to manly skills (sharpening a pocket knife, etc.) to product reviews of items that may have slipped under our radar (e.g. - Grandpa's Pine Tar soap). No threads on anything "new" unless it harkens to old-fashioned sensibilities and ideals.

If anyone here gets a chance to own an old Borsalino, say prior to 1970, do it! Even better if you can find one pre 1950. I have a few of them now and there is no comparison in construction, material and style with modern hats.

I've got a standing order for a semi calado Panama from Northwest Hats if he can source a straw body that can handle the dimensions I want. Something like this with a little taller crown and bigger brim.

I'd like to see some of the hats from the Council of Hats.

"Hats" is a metaphor, like when Jesus says, "This is my body."

Hats, shew thyselves!

Nice. That is nearly identical to the hat I picked up in CO this winter. I primarily use it at a fishing/outdoors hat so far.

My daily dress hat (I usually wear collared shirts to work) has become that "Traveler" hat graciously sent my way by Cleon. It's a great hat, comfortable and looks nice (I think). I've actually started a bit of a movement among some of the older folks at church. I had one older man (80ish) come up to me one Sunday to compliment that hat and reminisce about how "it used to be that a man didn't step outside with out a hat, you just weren't dressed without one." He ended up finding one of his old cowboy hats (he was an actual cowboy in his younger days) and now he wears it every Sunday.

Baseball hats......I must have 20 of them, the greatest majority having to do with my Navy service which I wear with great pride.

Due to a recent bout of skin cancer, I now also own a regulation military "boonie hat" to protect my ears and my almost bald head.

I've been wearing two hats most regularly.

One is the vintage parabuntal straw that I had Mike at Northwest Hats modify for me. It is posted a few pages back. It's great and super lightweight. The weave is so tight it's unbelievable. But, I can't get it wet.

Then, I have my trusty Sunbody. It is nice looking, durable, and can shake the rain right off. You do not want to wear a normal straw hat in the rain. It will ruin the shape. I would highly recommend a Sunbody palm hat to anyone who wants a some nice looking shade for summer that can span work, play, and semi formal. Get the fine palm if you want more flexibility. They can be customized with different bands and ventilation options.

I love hats.

I have regained my favorite grey rabbit fur pork pie hat that I had left behind at a friend's house. You can all stop worrying now.

Saw a top hat in a dumpster yesterday, could not resist the urge to steam the crown down into a footman like crown and shape it while cleaning it today
