Do you know your hat size?

Post about everything from carrying a handkerchief to manly skills (sharpening a pocket knife, etc.) to product reviews of items that may have slipped under our radar (e.g. - Grandpa's Pine Tar soap). No threads on anything "new" unless it harkens to old-fashioned sensibilities and ideals.

7 3/4 or 62 in an Akubra. My two Tilley hats are 7 7/8, as they say to order them larger, and indeed that works.

Bump.

A man should know his hat size.

I don't often wear a hat/cap.
When I do it is the one size fits all with the adjuster in the back.
I would consider a snap brim like Howard Hughes wore.
The service cap they gave me in basic was a 7. It was too small and hurt my head.
My work here is so secret even I don't know what I'm doing

Do you?

Take a tailor's measuring tape (inches) and measure around your head at the place where your hat sweatband would rest. Don't pull too tight and don't keep it too loose.

Divide by π (3.14). That's your US hat size. It is safer to round up if you are between sizes. I'm a 7 1/4 but can wear a 7 3/8 without it wiggling around. I am also a long oval. I have an egg head.
My preferred hat size has changed. I'm solidly in the 7 3/8 camp now. I would rather have a hat start out large and have the sweat band shrink down to size after breaking it in (as they always do).

Are you bigger than an 8?
no.

You might as well have used "other" instead of using >7 3/4. At least most hat web pages end at 8,

Depending upon the hat, I wear a 7 7/8 or an 8. I have never seen a 7 15/16 available.

The struggle continues...
Wow. That is impressive. Your head must be huge.

7 1/8 is a little tight but breaks in pretty quick. I have a 7 1/4 and it looks ok but the wind can blow it off my head too easily. I like a hat that a can shove down tight if it's windy. And don't forget the hat shapes. A long oval fits my head.

When I had hair it was 7 1/2. Now it's 7 3/8.
