To Dye or Not to Dye

Post about everything from carrying a handkerchief to manly skills (sharpening a pocket knife, etc.) to product reviews of items that may have slipped under our radar (e.g. - Grandpa's Pine Tar soap). No threads on anything "new" unless it harkens to old-fashioned sensibilities and ideals.

To Dye or Not to Dye

Post by jasonsilver » Fri Sep 21, 2018 6:38 pm

I'm now on the stoop of the Santa Claus beard - I've been vacillating between growing it out, then shaving, but the trend to facial luscious-long-locks makes me look 20 years older than the 50 I am.

So - what would an old-fashioned gentleman do? Should I use Just for Men, shave her off to keep my wife happy, or proudly join the ranks of Santa wannabes?

Shave if it makes her happy. Keep it if it doesn't cause strife. Avoid coloring it, though.

My Dad suggested that I shave my beard, right before our wedding. My Bride immediately said then we would have to postpone the wedding until it grew back.

Typically, I keep my beard trimmed at around 1/2". In the Fall, I let it grow longer for Christmas. At that stage, I look like a tall, skinny Santa. Not this year. Finding work is more important than looking like Santa.

I went bird hunting 2 weeks ago and just didn't shave for the time I was gone. When I got home, my wife said I should just grow it out, as I haven't sported a beard in a long time. The whole time we dated and the first 3 years we were married I had a beard...I shaved it for the first time when I started the academy and for the most part have been beardless since...and yes it is coming in with a lot of grey... :chili:

I'll look forward to seeing it! You'll look "distinguished."

I still haven't made a selfie since I shaved mine off.

My wife prefers me without it, and I prefer my wife to my beard.

Yep.

Unless yer in the market for a new squeeze, don't dye yer hair. Next thing you know you'll be waxing your eyebrows and manicuring your nails.
