The Knife of Man's Desiring

Post about everything from carrying a handkerchief to manly skills (sharpening a pocket knife, etc.) to product reviews of items that may have slipped under our radar (e.g. - Grandpa's Pine Tar soap). No threads on anything "new" unless it harkens to old-fashioned sensibilities and ideals.

I feel your pain. Best advice I can give is to stay away from Randall Made Knives. The RAD variation of the KAD is a horrible thing. I have four, a Model 1, a Model 14, a Guardian and my last purchase was a custom Model 2. I finally have recovered due to a lack of funds. I'm clean now, I swear it man.

I was going to order one once to commemorate the birth of my son figuring he would be five or so before it arrived. Things happened and the knife was not needed though looking back I kind of wish I would have done it now anyway.

I decided to post some pictures of my Randall Made knives and some knives made by H.G. Bourne. H.G. Bourne was a custom knifemaker out of Columbus, Ohio active from the 1940's up until the 1970's. Most of his knives were made for the mountain man reenactor community but he also made a few fighting knives and some survival knives. I have two of his knives. All of these knives, including the Randalls are carbon steel, which I prefer. They are usually kept in the safe but I do carry the Guardian and the Model 1 regularly.

Model 2 Fighting Stiletto (I ordered this one custom with black sheath, black micarta grips and nickel silver bolster)

Model 24 Guardian boot knife. I bought it with a brown sheath but ordered a black sheath from the guy that makes Randall sheaths.

The Guardian is the one I carry most often. It came with the brown sheath but about three years ago the Sheriff's Office I used to work for called me up and wanted me to go back to work. In a fit of insanity I agreed and ordered the black sheath to carry at work. Fortunately I regained some common sense and ended up turning them down but that sheath was already ordered so I got it.

I carry the Model 1 on that gun belt sometimes when I take my road/prayer walks (when it's cool enough). There are bears, coyotes, red wolves, etc. down here so I never walk unarmed. Usually though I don't go full cowboy and just carry a DA revolver or SA pistol with the Guardian. One of the cool things about where I live is that nobody blinks an eye when you open carry except for the weekenders from Raleigh.
