This little video you posted, Uncle Bob, reminds me of the last scene in the film First Night, with Sean Connery, Richard Gere, & Julia Ormond, with the Knights shooting flaming arrows at the boat where King Arthur lay, surrounded by kindling .

There is another wonderful film I saw decades ago, with Burt Lancaster. Towards the end of the film, Kids he befriended kidnapped his corpse and set it in a boat, pushed off shore, with shooting flaming arrows. "No worms!" the kids kept crying out

If the occasion of my death is foreseeable, I plan to have JimVH bobbleheads for the first 100 attendees to my funeral. If less than 100 attend, you'll be able to find them for a steal on ebay the next day. Afterwards, I've instructed my family to throw a big BBQ.

Going out on a burning boat does seem kind of cool, though.
Would you settle for going over a cliff in a burning VW Bug?

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.

My Official Answer: Influenced by Mircea Eliade, I think of funerals as being a liminal state through which core beliefs of a culture are communicated, reinforced, and sometimes modified. As such, burial and entombment are to be preferred for communicating Christian beliefs concerning the self and eschatology. In burial and entombment, the idea of man as a composite being, made of body and soul (contra Neoplatonism/Gnosticism); and the hope of a future resurrection like that of Christ's resurrection are portrayed.

My Unofficial Answer: Viking funerals are supercool because fire.

Both are pretty autistic. Just sayin’.

I like the sound of that VW bug. How many people die never having lived?
I am also of the opinion that the Jesuits should be suppressed.

I once asked a funeral director how much it would be to play Dixieland Jazz Funeral and have a spring attached to my back to be released during the face part. He didn't think it was that funny.

When I nearly died in a car accident caused by a seizure, I said I wanted this song at the end of my funeral:
