Acts. Reading to the whole family. I'm trying to read it in my best adventurer's voice. Lots of twists and turns in that book.

Got my bookmark stuck in Sirach.

It's been there a while.

What was it about Sirach that got you stuck?

Sirach is a great book. It is my wife's favorite.

I have trouble lately, sticking with any book.

And I never developed a devotion to Scripture ready. I love the Bible, I've read all of it, and taken study courses on many parts. Many Scripture passages are lovingly stuck in my head. But I haven't been able to develop a devotion of regular Bible reading.

I’m now in 1 Timothy, I was reading chapter 3, I feel that I need the Lord to work on my level of self control, especially in finances and temper, but also in my thoughts, continued strength in the area of lust as what amounts to pornography seems to be lurking in every tv show and advertisement, the mind seems to be a dangerous place sometimes. The words sober-minded also seem to jump out at me. I feel that as a man of God it may be time to make sure my priorities are in the right place and my life is in order, to make sure my life is different than the poor standard set for men in this world.

I've been camped out in the gospels for months now. About to start Matthew again.

Where you at in the Good Book?

Post by JohnnyMcPiperson » Fri Jun 29, 2018 5:23 am

This morning I was in 1 Peter 3 and it was very timely. The finish with the reference to Noah and the flood as a form of baptism was especially beautiful to me. I love how the Bible paints a big picture of the cross, start to finish, God truly is the great author, though there were many pens at work.

I'm Catholic.

We don't read the Bible.

What the hell do you think we pay the Priest for?

I will be in the 2nd half of Mark 8 for two weeks. Typically, I study the passage I will teach on Sunday Morning, every day of the week. On Saturdays, I read the commentaries. On Sunday, I write down what I will teach and at church I present this.

Next week, we will have a guest speaker at church, so I won't teach. But I will be doubly ready to teach.

Since I am still without work, I really appreciate the passages on feeding the 5,000 and the 4,000. If Jesus can feed these crowds with just a few loaves, why should I fret over finances? He knows what we need and will provide.

See my previous post. This is exactly why you should leave it up to your Priest. He'll tell you about the important parts. It just too hard for a layperson (even one of some intelligence such as you) to get a handle on. :chili:
