Prophecy

Post by Stanley76 » Mon Feb 04, 2019 9:04 pm

I am a lay person and about as far from a theologian as a person can get. But I know that there are many people here who are. Do any of you have any opinions or views on parallels between prophecies outlined in books such as Ezekiel for example and current events that are happening in the world today? With the situation in Syria, Israel, Russia and the Middle East along with events in Europe, America and the rest of the world, I am wondering and interested in what you think.

I'm not of an opinion one way or the other, sir. "Nothing shall be impossible for God" is my motto. He will do what He will do.

Only thing I question is our ability to interpret the prophecies: frankly, we stink on ice at it. That way madness lies. If you dont believe me, look around YouTube for the oddjobs. Maybe one of them is right, but how would I know?
I am also of the opinion that the Jesuits should be suppressed.

Now there's a can of worms! The opinions, learned or otherwise, on CPS will predictably follow party lines. Some will be silent owing to the desire not to create a stink. However, being an aficionado of my own blend, so to speak, I don't mind weighing in.

Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: TL;DR

Oh I don't mean to stir up any cans of worms, but I am interested. And you are right, the thing about interpretations is that they are just as varied as opinions, in fact they may BE opinions as far as I know. I was thinking more in terms of observations. Last thing I want to do is start any arguments, but hang on a second while I fill up my pipe and get some popcorn and I'll just sit here quietly. Maybe this subject should be in Purgatory section but the moderators apparently came to their senses and shut it down. LOL.

Israel, to whom had been entrusted the Scriptures, had something like 490 Messianic prophecies to go on with regards to recognizing Christ, the Messiah, and missed nearly all of them.

No. The OT is closed. Finished, kaput, fulfilled.

What about the NT then?

Generally speaking, no.

We've been in the last days since the resurrection of Jesus.

This thread needs a poll.

I'm not sure how to do a poll and I don't really know what to put on one but if you want to that would be appreciated. One thing I seriously do not want to do is to start any arguments, I was just looking for observations and discussion between people who know more than I do about scripture.

Jesus referred to a prophecy in Daniel as a still future event (Matthew 24:15-16)

Can you believe it? We agree.

Tuttle and I grew up in a dispensational church. Dispensationalists will say two things, "Jesus will come back at any moment" and at the same time they will say, "These thing will take place before Christ comes back."

So which is it? Jesus said it is finished.

I don’t claim to know more than anybody else here about prophecy. I do have a lot of interest in it, maybe too much interest. In regard to prophecy, the gold standard, in my opinion, is the Book of Revelation. Most agree it’s probably the most controversial book in the Bible. It was the last book to be canonized and a fairly large group of pastors through the ages and today will not preach from it despite the fact that the 3rd verse says:

(New International Version)

Rev 1:3

Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.

I'm not sure how we jumped so quickly from prophecy to end times, but I do know we won't see it coming. We'd cheat the system if we could somehow foreknow the time. Better lo live as best you can, confess often, and be ready but not worried.

To say we're in the end times is like saying the earth is warming. No sh*t Sherlock, the earth has been warming since the end of the last ice age, and we've been in the end times since Jesus promised to come back.
