Is C3 Church a church?

Post by Hovannes » Mon Aug 12, 2019 9:50 am

So my son was in San Diego. The family he helped move is staying with friends until they get established. The friends go to C3, it's Sunday, and they invite the family and my son to the service. Both the dad and my son were left dumbfounded by the service.
One of the collections was for the personal income for one of the church founders/leaders
My son, after getting in last night, asked me "is C3 a cult?"
I've got no idea, so I thought I'd ask you lads.

Doesn't every church support it's leaders financially? Even those who've retired? Staff salaries, benefits, and pensions are the largest expense for any church. Whatever else you may think of C3 (I've never heard of them myself), you can't fault them for using tithes or special gifts to support their pastors.

From Wiki
Phil Pringle has been accused of 'grooming' church congregations to pay for legal fees after a friend of Pringle's, a pastor of an unrelated church was convicted of fraud for using church funds to fund his wife's music career.
The senior pastor at C3 Asheville in North Carolina, Nicholas Dimitris, received a federal prison sentence for his part in a real estate fraud. Phil Pringle has maintained friendships with pastors around the world who have been convicted of financial fraud.

I had a poster of Wolfgang when I was a kid. It was one of those 4-part foldouts from the magazines we'd buy at the school book fair.

I read in the article:

"During the 1980s, church elders within C3 were accused of failing to act on several situations of sexual abuse and molestation of young boys. Recently, a pastor within C3 was convicted of colluding with a person to defraud copyright of a large number of DVD's. The senior pastor at C3 Asheville in North Carolina, Nicholas Dimitris, received a federal prison sentence for his part in a real estate fraud. [The founder], Phil Pringle has maintained friendships with pastors around the world who have been convicted of financial fraud."

Also read they promote the so called prosperity gospel, that it is the duty of every Christian to find worldly success and financial wealth. Money honey.

They misinterpret Jesus words wherein He said "That they might have life and have it more abundantly."
"At present we're on the wrong side of the door. But all the pages of the New Testament are rustling with the rumor that it will not always be so." ~ C.S. Lewis

None of us know anything about this church or its ministers and wikipedia is being quoted as a primary source.

I like the sig line of the first website you linked.

Romans 16:17 (NIV)
I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them.

Of course this presuppose that you (or someone with influence over you) have learned enough to spot truth and fakery when you see it. A favorite saying is that "It doesn't take a genius to spot a goat in a flock of sheep." But it does take someone who knows what sheep and goats look like. I wonder if this is the same bunch that our old friend from Oz was involved with for a time?
