Gave "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" another chance. It was every bit as bad as I remembered... sad.

Mr. Turner

Image

He's a pig! It's a good movie but his personal habits shock me.
Apparently it was well researched as to the authenticity of the times and his foibles. I had no idea.
There is not even a hint of a Christian society in those times so we gather from the movie.
Not a movie for Christian entertainment. Not for feminists either. Not for the young. It has a PG rating here but it should be R.
It may spoil your enjoyment of JMW Turner's paintings, too.
I feel like Salieri complaining about Mozart, and Mozart was virtuous compared to Turner :?

I'm curious why you think it's bad. I enjoyed it, because it is consistent with the Saturday afternoon matinee adventure that the whole series was modeled on and with aged characters we mostly knew. That was a credible aged Indiana Jones. A lot of the original stuff in this genre, that we actually paid to see, back in the 60's was not nearly as good. Plus it had enough historical technical realism so that I couldn't complain even if the events themselves didn't occur. They got technical details right about atomic bomb tests. The trip in the refrigerator was not realistic but it was consistent with the genre.

I thought that The Temple of Doom wasn't as good.

This isn't an either/or proposition. Crystal Skull and Temple of Doom both sucked. That's okay.

I also have to giggle just a little bit at Gabriel - for most of us, Crystal Skull was 2 hours we'll never get back. For him, it was 4.
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.

It Happened One Night. Perfect Frank Capra. Clark Gable smokes a pipe in this film with some genuine authenticity. Check out the great Walter Connolly and Roscoe Kearns.
