Maybe sandblast...

Post by JMG » Thu Dec 21, 2017 10:27 pm

I've never been happy with the way the color worked out on this pipe. I think I may sandblast it when I get back home and give it a redo.

I love the shape, JMG.
Smooth or blasted, it’s a beautiful pipe.

Very nice pipe.
I like the color, but it has a cocoa powder tint that is just off from the deeper chocolate of the stem, if that is getting to what you don't like about it.
I with Durango, it will be good either way.

Yeah, it's the combo of the stem and stummel that I think might be off. I'd change the stem to a plain black ebonite stem before I'd blast it. Any flaws on the surface of the bowl?

I like a sandblast, but I have to agree that an all black stem might just make that pipe even more stunning than it already is. Very nice work!

What they said (about the black stem). But if that doesn't do it for you, thank goodness, because that's a really great stem.

I love the large birds-eye in this pipe & I like the shape very much. Maybe a good scrub with denatured alcohol would lighten the color?
