Flavors of Summer---the wishful thinking thread

Post by Hovannes » Tue Apr 03, 2018 10:59 pm

Gin and tonics, barbeque potato chips, macaroni salad, fresh peaches and watermelon all taste like summer to me.
What tastes do you associate with summertime?

Peter Stokkebye 303 Peaches and Cream, Cult Blood Red Moon, and perhaps Dunhill Elizabethan Mixture, are all good summertime flavors. Villager Cocktail Hour also, if it was still available.

Barbeque. Not that burger and hot dog shindig your neighbor invited you to. Not to discount those enjoyable summer flavors, but that's not barbeque. I'm talking ribs, brisket, pork, and any other slow and low smoked meat.

Lemonade mead, grilled or smoked pineapple, and fresh peaches.

Fresh blueberries in those huge flats sold cheap at Costco. As for fresh peaches, yes, those, too. But they are hard to find down here. But oh, those luscious ones found at roadside stands north of Sacramento! Going to have to find a way to get some shipped here.

Melons of all kinds, meat cooked with smoke and fire, peaches, berries, crawfish boils, seafood boils, fish fries, lemonade, coleslaw, potato salad, and fishing a cold drink out of a cooler of ice on a hot day and taking that first sip.

Oh, and popcicles.

Whiskey Sours
Hefewizen
cigars
Grilled chicken (over charcoal with a piece or two of oak or hickory tossed on the coals).

I'm not taking on a major house project this year. My plan is to do little tasks around the house, garden, and frequent the local butcher and Bosewell's more often.

That happens a lot less if you use a lawn mower.

Fresh, from a garden or local farmer, tomatoes for tomato sandwiches. Soft white bread, thick cut tomatoes, salt, pepper and plenty of mayo. That is summer in a mouthful.
