What do you use empty cigar boxes for?

Post by Thunktank » Mon Jun 10, 2019 10:39 am

Over the years I’ve acquired a few cigar boxes. The kids would use them to put art supplies in them. I got rid of most of them, but now I wish I would have kept a few more for odds and ends. They stack very well.

But now I’m looking for two larger sized ones. I want to make a couple father Son2 projects of electric Cigar Box Guitars (CBG). Google it if you want to see examples of them if you don’t know what they are. I’m particularly interested in using one slide guitar style.

Mrs FredS uses them to store art junk. I hardly ever buy boxes of cigars and mostly go with bundles so she buys empty boxes when we go to cigar shops together. I still have some filled with nuts and bolts that my dad gave me when he downsized 25 years ago. Hell, I'm pretty sure a couple of them came from his dad.

As for CGB - Be sure to talk to G_A if he doesn't chime in. Also, I have some tuners I scavenged from a busted garage sale guitar when I thought about building a CBG. I now know it's a project I'll never get around to, and I never heard anything from G_A when I offered them to him so they're yours if pm me your address.

I use some to store dice. I've given some to the kids for whatever they want to keep in them.

I play at venues every now and again and use cigar boxes to sell my CDs out of. The boxes for the Drew Estate Naturals line work the best...perfect fit and a cool folding lid that doubles for display purposes

I had started a CBG thread here on CPS once upon a time. I have two CBGs-- I have not pursued yet making one on my own (tools and workspace limitations at the time when I had time available).

So you have! I mush have been missing in action then. I would have remembered a thread like that had I seen it.

Been a very long time since I used an old cigar box. I liked the wood ones.

However, on the question of, What do [did] you use empty cigar boxes for? I shall speak naught to.

I'm sure they'd be a hit sending them to school as a pencil box for some elementary-aged kids.

For keeping treasures in.

Aside from that---when I was shooting a lot of .22lrs I kept a cigar box with a variety of boxes of .22 cartridges. I'd take it to the range whenever I got a new rim fire just to see which load gave the smallest groups.

I always give cigar boxes to kids. Some of those boxes are really cool.

Even when I smoked cigars (years ago) I never bought enough at one time to get a box except when my first child was born. I have no idea what happened to that box (but I still have one of the cigars).

My mom made several purses out of CBs once. They looked something like this (not her pic):

No one uses them to collect their enemies' tears?

Naw...enemy tears go into a bottle. That way it's much easier to lube your weapon with them.

I use them to fill my pool.
