I Am This Old

The part of the church where the silliest things happen. Conversations that sound like they belong in the youth room will be moved here.

I remember candy cigarettes and bubblegum cigars.

I still find these a lot when I'm out fishing. We used to make chains out of them and one time my brother and I hung several strings of them in our bedroom doorway. Felt like a hippy den.

For the record, I never cut my foot on one.

Out of habit, I still usually remove the tab completely when I drink from a can.

Ah! The good old "Church Key"!

For the benefit of the kids, here's how a pull-tab chain is made:

There are many terrible attributes of the lowly cob. Not the least of them is that it makes you look like a doof.

I remember most of these, but not the Kennedy assassination. I remember watching the faces of the parents of that lady astronaut realizing they just watched her die when the Challenger blew up, though. I had a dentist's appointment that morning and wanted to watch it before we left.

Still gives me the shudders.

My dad worked at both of these. At the Conoco he was paid 60 bucks for 6 days a week.
