Question about pipe stem.

Post by Stan41 » Sun Aug 02, 2009 4:06 pm

I have a Knute of Denmark freehand pipe with a broken stem. Does anybody know where I can get a replacement stem for it without it costing more than the pipe is worth?

Thanks,

I'm sure you can send it to someone to have a replacement stem made fairly inexpensively. I'm guessin some guys on here can give you a more exact answer in 5,4,3,2,1.....chime in guys!

thestablesonfire- One time my bother had a pipe that got chewed up by a dog and we went to Paul's Pipe Shop and got his stem taken care of for $20. Paul's maybe the best pipe shop around.

Sorry Stan41 that my post doesn't stop help you out.

Always look on ebay for those pipe stem lots (though its a crap shoot).

Most Pipe repair people can replace it. Tim West and American Smoking Pipe Repair come to mind. And it's quite possible that the pipe may even improve with the replacement.

American Pipe Repair has a nice sequence explaining how these stems are replaced - they're custom made. You might ask her what the cost would be.

Whether it's worth it depends upon whether you value the pipe.

Just out of curiosity what do you think the pipe is worth?

Rusty: Thanks for the link. I would guess the pipe is worth probably $35.00.
Thanks,
