30(40) Days of Blogging

Post by friar_jay » Sat Nov 15, 2014 2:59 pm

This year I've decided to participate in a 30(40)* Days of Blogging challenge being put on by the Preachers Institute. In addition to this being the first of such a challenge I've done, I'm also the only non-Eastern Orthodox believer in the mix. Feel free to read and engage on my blog if you're so moved. I'll post the newest post every day in this thread.

Here's the introductory post:
2014 - 30(40) Days of Blogging
http://www.ecksermonator.com/2014-30-40 ... -blogging/

*For those curious the 30(40) refers to the fact that while the challenge is set as 30 days, some feel inclined to push themselves forth and aim for 40 days.

Jason

What a great idea!
Something of a spiritual discipline, like fasting. I will try to read all your posts as you go through the journey.

Friar_Jay, great blog. I will try to keep up with your posts. Recently, I heard a speaker say that all of God's commands are for our good. His rules are to protect us. It is much easier to keep his commands when we think they are like, "Thou shall not play in the interstate!" rather than "Thou shall not have fun!"

I have no idea how many churches I have been in. My wife and I try to figure out the history and nature and values of a church, strictly by the building. Obviously this does not work if the congregation has radically changed over the years. I love a church building that reflects the beauty and wonder of our God.

The most amazing church I have ever attended was in Tiawana, Mexico. They bought a boxing arena. The speaker had two rows of seats in front of him, and then seats all the way to the ceiling on both sides. Effectively he had his back to half the congregation at all times. BUT, God was working in an amazing way in the church. I attendeded their monthly 24 hour prayer vigils at the 11:00 pm slot. There were usually 50 people at that time.

I had forgotten you were a blogger. I'll have to wait until I get home to catch up, but I'll definitely be following going forward.

There is so much of prophecy that has not been fulfilled. But there is plenty that has been fulfilled, so we can trust God to keep his promises. Ultimately, Christ will return an reigh as King of all. There are many details that we don't need to know yet.

All the apostles expected Christ to return during their life. We also hold onto that hope. Will we be the generation that hears the final trumpet? Perhaps our grandchildren? Even so, Lord, come quickly!

Wow! My first reaction to your blog was, "NO! Salt it to be avoided!" FYI, my wife had a heart attack this summer and we are learning the low sodium diet. We read nutritional info on all food now.

This is going to take some comtemplation. Keep on blogging. I am enjoying your insights.
