I just ordered a used hardbound edition of The Endurance, by Caroline Alexander, the account of the 1st exploratory expedition to Antarctica in 1914, one of the greatest adventure stories of all time. Very much looking forward to this book.

"My Jesus Year: A Rabbi's Son Wanders the Bible Belt in Search of His Own Faith" by Benyamin Cohen and "Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream" by Doris Kearns Goodwin.
I'm also working on "Commentary on the Torah" by Richard Elliot Friedman because my Sunday school class's quarterly lesson series is on creation and the early chapters of Genesis.

Read that one well over a decade ago. I probably need to give it another read with the evolution of my perspective.ReverendThom wrote:Tried reading this years ago. Round 2.

Been enjoying this book a lot. Small fonts and many pages with photography. I'll savor this one awhile

Nor the whiskey. Is this the expedition that went off and left a case of scotch stowed beneath the floor of the cabin? And then a century later it was found, sampled, and then left there? sheez!!! And all in the name of science, of course? I may need to find a copy of this book.John-Boy wrote: ↑Thu Sep 13, 2018 4:34 amIIRC, each man had to cut his personal gear down to 2 pounds, or something like that, but pipe tobacco appeared to not count against their weight.
