Perusing Asimov on Chemistry. Waiting for a couple of John Graves and Wodehouse books to arrive.

I've read a bit on speech acts, so I would love to know what you think of this.

Ha! I was going to ask if it had pictures. Whatever it was, it must have been good.

It didn't have any pictures (I was looking for a book which was e***** in content, but considered actual literature rather than p***). But that makes some feel uncomfortable, so c'est la vie I guess...

I read it a long time when I had too many other things going on and I don't feel I gave it the attention it deserves.

I think two years ago, but easily over a year. There is a lot to ponder.

Re: What book are you reading?
It was delightfully Japanese and the author did a good job with his unreliable narrator. While I don't think that it should be a Nobel Prize winner, it was a pretty good book.

A favorite S. J. Perelman quote:
"The dubious privilege of a freelance writer is he’s given the freedom to starve anywhere."
A freelance writer (among other things) friend originally from Michigan- now starving in Denver (not really) - just sent me this pipe related snippet from Perleman. I thought others here might enjoy it:
They then suggest to me the things you must have in order to be a writer now. Most often, a laptop, wireless headphones, a supply of PBR and weed are suggested.
Ah, Colorado.

I often tell my students that if you were a writer in the middle of the 20th century there were two things you had to have in addition to a typewriter and a supply of typewriter paper, those being a pipe and a bottle of bourbon.
They then suggest to me the things you must have in order to be a writer now. Most often, a laptop, wireless headphones, a supply of PBR and weed are suggested.
