A Eurasian Collared Dove nesting on two eggs in my front yard Grapefruit Tree. Sorry for the graininess of the photo. I had my camera set on 3200 ISO and was too lazy to change to a lower ISO. 60mm Fujinon lens on a Fuji XE1 camera

Re: Your Best Nature Photos Thread
Not a particularly great photograph, but a favorite nonetheless.
I just stumbled across this photo while looking for something else. It was taken with a really crappy point&shoot ilm camera, with one hand, while I was fishing.
My favorite beaver pond in the San Juans:

This is where I've caught the largest brook trout I've seen. Typically, brook trout in the San Juans run from 4"-12" with a 12" a rarity.
During runoff, this pond gets a pretty constant flow and the big brooks seek refuge from the current here. I once took 3 18" rookies from this pond and decided to leave them alone after that.
I'll tell you where it is . . .
on second thought.

Re: Your Best Nature Photos Thread
Well . . .
That got me wondering if I could find a photo of some of those good-sized brookies.
And I did, in an old journal entry from May 30, 1986 (during the height of runoff):

There aren't the biggest trout I've ever taken from that pond, but they're good sized brooks nonetheless.
The entry includes,
" . . . ate these 2 & 2 others with J.P., K.B. and Daniel."
J.P. is an old friend from Baltimore who used to come to Silverton in the summer. K.B. is my wife who was the second grade teacher in Silverton who passed away in '87. Daniel is my son, now 41 who would have been 9 when we ate those brookies.
A very special beaver pond, indeed.
