So what ya got planned for Mother's Day?

Post by Hovannes » Sat May 12, 2018 8:57 am

Today I'm taking flowers to the cemetery.
Tomorrow after mass I'm taking us up to the The Point at Shaver Lake for lunch on the deck overlooking the lake.

Our mom also went over Jordan a few years ago, but the cemetery is over 150 miles from here. But she'll be in thought, for sure.

Today is my wife's birthday.

I went to the butcher shop and picked up some prime steaks for the grill.

Meanwhile.... Pipeson visited the same butcher to get a large chuck roast to prepare for Mother's Day.

So, it looks like Beef: It's what's for Mother's Day.

Since we're going out for lunch... errr... brunch... errr...whatveryacallit, I'll be cooking dinner.
A local market has halibut on sale. Maybe I should check it out? Or a Costco chicken.

Can't go wrong with a Kirkland Rotisserie chicken. And those Baby Back ribs they have alongside them always gets my attention, but I have yet to pull the trigger.

My wife and I enjoyed several shops in Naperville, 5 blends of tea at on shop, several blends of spice at two other shops and a glorious time wandering around looking at things.

Chili. Mom wants my chili, so mom gets my chili.

And cornbread.

And apple pie, with her choice of vanilla ice cream or sharp cheddar.

My mom is coming over to meet my new colt and dig in the dirt together (I have some basil plants to get in the ground).
I went to a bake sale today, so we'll have a nice plate of goodies on the table, and I got her a super cool hand-turned seam ripper for her quilting.
Mom will be surprised! :>)

I let my wife sleep in and took care of the baby. Just brought her breakfast, and a couple presents.

It'll be more crowded at church this morning than Christmas or Easter, but we'll be there and try to fit in. Afterward it's lunch at the Schooner restaurant, which is open today, the only Sunday each year that its open. Been thinking of my mom all weekend, but I still have my wife and daughters to take out to lunch.

The first time I ever heard of apple pie with cheese was in Lake Charles LA, at the old Plantation Restaurant. A man at the next table asked his mom if she would like a "slice of hot apple pie, with cheddar cheese on top". I don't remember if she accepted her son's offer, but I was intrigued and never forgot it.
