Second-hand smoke. A non-pc opinion.

Post by dennisthemenace » Sun Aug 12, 2018 5:35 pm

I recently read an article that a friend shared that kids need to play in the dirt more and use antibiotics less. I was very non-pc and said kids need their share of second hand smoke (ETS). Here are facts about a study that the World Health Organization did, and then hid the results because the results were not what they wanted to hear.

Wow, reading that just had me grab a cigarillo...ahhh, wonderful!

Jacob Sullum's FOR YOUR OWN GOOD has a significant section on second-hand smoke. To the best of my recollection (I am sitting and smoking and most disinclined to actually go pull it off the shelf), it could be summarized as saying that the overwhelming majority of studies show either tenuous relationships well characterized as "statistically insignificant," or no relationship at all between second-hand smoke and disease.

that should never, I hasten to add, be grounds for smoking in the presence of those wno raise an objection.

I've been convinced for a while now, via Michael Crichton no less, that the second hand smoke scare is bogus.

I have an unpleasant allergic reaction to second-hand cigarette smoke.

My father was a life-long smoker, and it was unpleasant growing up -- nobody knew or cared much about allergies. We didn't now about it until I left for college -- and coming home to visit caused some sinus discomfort.

Anyhow, the notion that second-hand smoke causes CancerTM was part of the bogus political play to pry billions of dollars from the tobacco industry. That was supposed to help the states reduce healthcare costs, or something.

I find second hand smoke, more or less, pleasant.

My wife hates my non-pc opinions. Maybe she just hates where I express them.

I don't care for secondhand cigarette smoke one bit, but secondhand pipe smoke is quite pleasant IMO.

Pipeson and I enjoyed our pipes in public last night, on the patio at our favorite pub-&-grill.

It was Sunday -- "kids eat free" on Sunday. The inside was full of families.

Windows all around, so we were pretty much the fish in the fishbowl.

A few mommies were very intrigued by our brazen disregard for PC compliance. How bold! How manly!

A few guys and gals came out to chat about pipe smoking. We were smoking a Lake District topping. They wanted some of that second-hand cool.
