Got My 1st Meerschaum Pipe Recently

Post by Goose55 » Tue Sep 04, 2018 2:23 pm

Got my 1st Meerschaum pipe recently and plan on smoking it this evening. How does one know if it actually is block Meerschaum, and not pressed?

Length: 5 1/2" Bowl height: 2" Diameter Outside: 1 1/2" Inside: 7/8" Bowl Depth: 1 1/2" Nomenclature: CAO SIGNED T BECKLER

Press your tongue to it. If it sticks a little it is more than likely block. Though if it’s been waxed that probably won’t work.

Yeah. Maybe. But not as good as those cruel kids I sometimes walked to elem school with. On one near below zero winter day I bought into kissing a steel rail on a R/R track. When my lips froze to the steel I got pretty darn scared. Can't recall how I ever got loose.

I've never been too shrewd. I'm an idealist.

MEER REPORT:

What I immediately noticed when I lit my first bowl of McClelland 40th Anniversary in this Meerschaum pipe last evening is how very lightweight the pipe is. Featherweight. And it's not a small bowl. Bowl height: 2" Diameter Outside: 1 1/2" Inside: 7/8" Bowl Depth: 1 1/2"

I also noticed as I smoked down the bowl that the tobacco seemed to smoke slower/ cooler. The bowl definitely felt cooler than the briars. McClelland Flake smokes slow anyway, but especially so in this Meer.

I also noticed a bit more flavor. 40th is a celestial blend and would taste good if smoked from a shoe, but it tasted especially good in the Meer. At a couple points, I covered the top of the bowl to slow down the rate of burn and w/ my index and middle finger still tightly covering the bowl, smelled the button of the stem and the most heavenly aroma was wafting into the air out the stem.

Nirvana.

Angels in heaven are singing right now.

Ya know, because Jesus.

They don’t care about this. But I do. Very cool. I have a horrible singing voice anyway.

Meerschaum is such a weird material. Feels and looks like plastic

Is it more heat resistant than briar?

I've owned one meerschaum and it definitely didn't smoke cooler than briar. I bet your technique is just that good, Goose.

My technique is a work in progress. I get to chugging away and I often have to place my hand over the bowl to shrink the ember.

Really enjoyed a bowl of McClelland Beacon Extra in the Meer last evening with a glass of Scotch. I don't know what it is but the experience seemed to be enhanced. Beacon Extra has a soft quality to it but it seemed even more so in this Meer
