Plastic Tub vs Mason Jars

Post by harkpuff » Mon Sep 10, 2018 9:23 am

I just inherited a 14oz sealed tub of H&H Chantham Manor and I'm wondering about the plastic tub that it came in. With my rendezvous with the pipe being so infrequent anymore 14oz of anything is going to last me a looooooong time. Because of this I'm wondering about the storage characteristics of the plastic tub vs Mason jars. Since plastic is used during manufacturing, would it make sense that plastic would also be good for long term storage? I'm also wondering if it is possible for the tobacco itself to take on a plastic odor after a long period of time of exposed to the tub.

The issue of using Plastic for long term storage was declared anethema at the Second Eccumentical Cousel of The Pipe in 526 AD.

I trust the H&H plastic tubs for long-term storage.

If H&H Chantham Manor is an aromatic it likely has Propylene Glycol to keep it moist and that is the reason for its longevity in the plastic tub. But if I were concerned about it losing its flavor/ topping, I'd store in mason jars.
