Your favorite apple variety?

Post by Hovannes » Sat Nov 10, 2018 2:07 pm

Green Pippins, Fujis. Crab Apples and Arkansas Black Twigs.
Fujis are easy to find here, but Green Pippins and Arkansas Black Twigs are near impossible, although they were quite common when I was a lad.
I can only get crab apples from someone who has a tree.
What are your favorites?

In order:

Fuji
Pacific Rose
Granny Smith
iPhone

My grandparents had crab apple trees on their place. Good memories and good lessons. There's a reason for the name green apple quicksteps.

Arkansas Black.
Deer like them too.
Had to put up a 6' fence to keep them out.

Stopped at an orchard market up on your side of the border on Saturday. Cider was $7/gallon. Pass.

I'm offended on your behalf, sir. Artisanal cider, made by genuine craftbeards. Now with more worms!

Oh, and I never answered the OP. I love apples. Favorites are pippins--all the joy of those first couple of bites, none of the annoyance of eating around the core.

Indeed. tuttle and I might disagree vehemently, but at least we don’t compete for resources.

On a side note, I read that Voltaire was once offered a quantity of grapes from a vineyard-owning friend. He declined them with the immortal quote, “I do not care for my wine in pill form.”

I found a very nice Stanwell Golden apple. Very nice indeed, and very tempting. An Arkansas Black, I have yet to locate.
