Young Man, Get a Navy Blue Blazer!

Post about everything from carrying a handkerchief to manly skills (sharpening a pocket knife, etc.) to product reviews of items that may have slipped under our radar (e.g. - Grandpa's Pine Tar soap). No threads on anything "new" unless it harkens to old-fashioned sensibilities and ideals.

Young Man, Get a Navy Blue Blazer!

Post by Hovannes » Sun Jan 13, 2019 9:03 pm

My Navy Blue Blazer---
In 1982 I was in Mammoth, CA where there happened to be a Factory Outlet center, where I picked up a Ralph Lauren Polo Navy Blue blazer, made in the USA, with a $70 price tag.
Over the past 37 years it's been to more weddings, funerals, banquets, masses, trips to the big city, job interviews, business meetings and dates than I can remember (however I never wore it while teaching.) For the past seven or eight years it's been my usher's uniform every Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation.
And it still looks great(and still fits!)
No shine, no pelling, no broken buttons.

A good Navy Blue Blazer is an excellent investment.

We'll now return to to the regularly scheduled programming,

My dad told me a man should always have a blue blazer, one pair each of grey and khaki trousers, and a white shirt in his closet. It's the first thing you see entering my closet still today.

No shine on a well-loved 37 year old blazer? That is a seriously impressive feat!

My dad gave me a bunch of madder ties from the '80s when I left home in th '90s. I, sadly, got rid of most of them because I thought the were old fashioned.

I was previously unfamiliar with the term Madder Ties, though, likely by some supernatural influence, I have always had them in my collection.

I blame public schooling.

I blame public schooling for a lot of my foibles, errors, and general maladroitness. I only learned they were called madder upon perusing a Brooks Brothers catalog. :D
