GLP Penny Farthing

Post by JimVH » Mon Jul 08, 2019 8:21 pm

I haven't been excited about a new release in quite a while, but Penny Farthing made me curious enough to order a few tins. The blend and, especially, the cut hit me right in the sweet spot. I hope it does not disappoint.
SmokingPipes.com wrote:Penny Farthing is a shag-cut blend of bright and red Virginias, spiced with Louisiana Perique and a hint of fire-cured dark Kentucky. It's easy to pack, easy to smoke. Sipped gently, Penny Farthing opens with a sophisticated sweetness, evolving in depth and complexity throughout the bowl to a rich, satisfying finish.

That looks very promising. I presume you ordered from SP?

I just requested it from my local B&M! I’m trying to only buy through them for the most part these days. I’ve been wanting for a new Pease blend for awhile now, he never disappoints!

I'm trying to buy mostly from my B&M lately too. They won't stock GLP blends because they're distributed by Laudisi, and they don't want to do business with them. The manager is a great guy, but he has a strong disliking for Sykes.

I tend to find the doctrinal books often more helpful in devotion than the devotional books.... I believe that many who find that "nothing happens" when they sit down, or kneel down, to a book of devotion, would find that the heart sings unbidden while they are working their way through a rough bit of theology with a pipe in their teeth and a pencil in their hand.

Thanks for that Jim, I hope to try it soon.

My local shop got some in! It is definitely shag cut, you could easily roll cigarettes with this stuff. Image

It’s got a nice profile, off the light I’m getting the dark fired Kentucky and a little bit of perique, reminds me of Natural Spirits Black, but’s bit sweeter and fuller. Getting some of the red va too I think and some pepper and that pencil shaving sort of flavor (reminds me of the smell, no I have not eaten pencil shavings) I like it. The vaper character is building down the bowl. Good stuff!

Johnny nailed it on his description. I've burned most of a tin and really enjoy the flavor, but it has a tendency to bite my tongue, so I smoke it pretty slow in smaller pipes.

Thanks! That's just what I've been doing with a shag cut, "Italia"; been smoking it in a tiny pipe, a Savinelli minuto; very slowly, and it's been working great for me. These have been the best bowls I've ever had. I can't get Italia here so I've been looking around for other shag cut Va/Bur's to try. Hoping the cut and pipe size combo are what's been working so well for me; not just the particular blend. I appreciate your thoughts. I've got some Penny Farthing on order now.
