Jack Hargreaves

Post by hugodrax » Thu Mar 26, 2020 4:01 pm

Over the last few days, I've discovered Jack Hargreaves "Out of Town" episodes on YouTube.

I like to think of him as a sort of English version of Hov, and I mean that as a compliment. Quiet spoken, gentlemanly, and a bit of a coot, Jack just takes you on a wander through surviving oddments of traditional british rural life. Rather delightful, to be honest, and he's a devoted fisherman and serious Falcon smoker.

Worth a gander if you get a little cabin fever.

I've watched some of his videos. They are very comfortable to watch.

Got a link? This sounds up my alley.

I'm watching the first episode now (posted above).

First half is a Gypsie horse market. Interesting.

At 13 minutes, Jack visits a pedigree sheep-breeding farm. It's time to let the young, virgin rams (think - shy teenage boys) have a go with a flock of experienced ewes (think - stripper bar).

The little boy rams huddle together in fear and amazement.

Maybe they should watch some videos or something, to get an idea.

I am the only guy in the whole world who has enjoyed a smoke with both Hovannes and hugodrax.
- I met Hovannes at the Chesterton Conference in San Antonio, and again at ChesterCon in Kansas City.
- I smoked with hugo while I was enjoy ChesterCon in Slippery Rock, PA.

I agree that Hovannes is like Jack.... able to tell a great story of outdoor life. And probably an endless source of amusement, if you were to find him in his natural habitat.

Honesty compels me to confess that hugo resembles "Al Bundy".... sharp, caustic, and hilarious. Except that hugo is much nicer to women.

Come to think of it, I've met several CPS guys while at Chesterton Conferences. Even split a hotel room with tuttle, one night.

Jack Hargreaves should smoke I pipe, I hope.

I looked him up a little just out of curiosity. The usual good and bad of a life, of course, but interestingly, he never spoke from notes and every episode was unscripted.

When you're done with Jack Hargreave's "Out of Town" episodes, check out Fred Dibnah's "Industrial Age" videos on YouTube. There's also a series called the The Fred Dibnah Story that's interesting. When it comes to engineering, Fred's my hero.

Most likely a distant relative of mine. I hail from Hargreaves as a Hargrave.
