Schurch Torino ( SOB) with about 3 or 4 years in the tin. Allegedly an homage to Balkan Sobranie. In my view, it is OK but not anywhere near a substitute for Sobranie. White Knight, for example, is far more reminiscent of Sobranie. Further, age did not improve this mixture. Tasted as though it had faded.

I recall that Rusty observed that aging English/Balkan style mixtures often diminishes the flavor and not in a good way. I have had some that improved through aging, but most tended to fade in flavor after several years. If I had to generalize, I'd say 1 or 2 years of aging max for English/Balkan blends.

In my experience it depends on the ratios, more VA ages better, more Latakia ages worse, IMO

I sold Coco the bulk of what I have at a good deal. My impressions of it, even after over 2-years aging is that it is still kind of "thin." Lacks the rich fullness and roundness that I enjoy in a tobacco.

Wish I had known of this blend before McClelland went away. It is a good one.

Dug back into the G&H Dark Flake Unscented...can't leave it alone...what great flavors and smoke...the N kick is huge, but it is worth it for the quality flavor.

How does it compare to GH Brown Flake Unscented?

I can not expound on the differences...I have only tried the Brown Flake once and it was some years ago. I do not remember the experience other than a fellow smoker had some at pipe league and shared with me. I don't remember if I like it or how it smoked. Sorry...I will have to track some down and compare.

I would tend to agree with Johnny McP about the amount of Virginia tobaccos in an English/Balkan blend. Latakia may fade but some Virginia tobaccos in a blend, with age, may make up for the Latakia deficit and change it for the better. Wish I could say that was the case with the Schurch SOB I've been smoking.

I dug out a large jar of MB Navy Flake that I received several years ago in the Secret Santa...it has aged well and was a great smoke in the Comoy St James billiard last night on the patio as I watched it rain.
